Where the Douro Meets the Vinhos Verdes
Quinta da Castanheira is located in Baião, in northern Portugal, on the south bank of the Douro river — a transition zone between two of the country’s most expressive wine regions.
On one side the Demarcated Douro region; on the other, the Vinhos Verdes. The estate sits at 250 m elevation, on a granite ridge facing southeast.
It’s this unique meeting of climates and soils that gives 1000 Curvas wines their structure, freshness and minerality.
We wanted to prove that the terroir of Baião, between the Douro and the Minho, can produce elegant, structured wines — a faithful expression of its altitude, its granite soils and the climate that shapes them, with the Douro River as the thread running through that identity.
