Our Story
How It All Began
Quinta da Castanheira, today home of 1000 Curvas, has been producing wine since at least 1907.
The old wine cellar, beneath the main house, dates from 1907.
The estate spans 36 hectares of granite terraces between the Douro and Vinhos Verdes regions.

The Project
A New Chapter
The 1000 Curvas project began in 2011, when Armando Soares, with his son Rodrigo and winemaker Pedro Mota, started replanting the historic vineyards.
The first vineyard, planted that year, took an unexpected risk: 70% Chardonnay and 30% Alvarinho.

Three Vineyards
A Living Mosaic
From the first parcel grew the next: a Pinot Noir in 2016 to test the limits of the terroir, and a Field Blend in 2016 with six varieties — Arinto, Avesso, Viosinho, Códega do Larinho, Rabigato and Chardonnay — paying tribute to the old plantings of the region.

“We make wine that honors the past and points to the future.”
— Rodrigo Soares, founder

People Behind the Wine
Every bottle tells the story of those who made it: from Armando’s vision, through Pedro Mota’s craft, to São’s hospitality. A small family that turned a centuries-old estate into a contemporary wine project.
Each curve of the road that climbs to the estate is a small step into our story.
